Evelyn Lambart
Evelyn Lambart (1914–99) was an experimental animator whose work with Norman McLaren forged new approaches to visualising sound on screen. The pair created frenetic, fizzing soundtracks by carving directly into celluloid with pencils, pens, brushes and razor blades. Originally intended as a way to avoid paying for music rights, Lambart and McLaren’s hand-etched scores appear as the mid-century analogue predecessors of 8-bit music.
